What a delightful yet emotional story. Rob is born into a world with limited opportunities for someone such as him. Mocked and ridiculed, he feels on the outside, never fully included. This results in Rob living a restless life, always on the move. He meets lots of interesting characters along the way as he takes up various jobs in order to survive.
It was interesting to see how life was back in the 1700s, from class systems to laws to everyday family life. Especially for anyone with a disability or who was from a poor family.
The book is well written and pulled me in from the first few pages. Rob has a colourful yet tragic life. All he wants is to be accepted. Even though the book starts with the ending, I desperately wanted things to be different for him. I loved the way his story was told and how even though he was a 'nobody', his life held meaning.
A truly wonderful read, although not all happy book. It was thoughtful and sensitively done.
