Thursday's Child
‘Thursday’s child has far to go’ (old rhyme)
Mary was born on Thursday 7th October 1920 into a rural community in the aftermath of the first world war. She spent most of her life in a small market town where her forebears had lived and worked for generations. In her long life she saw huge sociological and technological changes, but her overriding love was for her family. She embraced their successes, adventures and the expansion of her family circle through births and marriages. This is her story and the story of some of the lives she touched and influenced, set alongside the changing world that she faced with interest and a huge capacity for enjoyment. Looking back on her life the prophecy that she had ‘far to go’ was reflected in her achievements and the changes that took place during her 98 years.
